We communicate with our patients and provide the most effective cancer treatment available in Salt Lake City and the rest of Utah. At Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, Dr. Hayes and Dr. Skidmore look at each patient’s cancer as a unique challenge to overcome with the least damaging treatment. Many patients view cancer treatment as destructive to the entire body. With expert and up-to-date cancer treatment in Salt Lake City from Dr. Hayes and Dr. Skidmore, chemotherapy and other treatments might not cause lasting damage.
With more than 2000 brachytherapy implant procedures performed over the course of his medical career, Dr. Hayes has watched this form of treatment evolve. As a native of Provo, UT, Dr. Hayes received his medical degree from the University of Utah in 1983. Before that, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Cum Laude) and an M.S. degree in Physical Chemistry. Dr. Hayes completed his internship for Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah from 1983-1988 as well as his residency. As a certified Radiation Oncologist with the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Hayes is passionate about helping each patient receive the best cancer treatment available in Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas.
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Dr. Skidmore attended Westminster College for his undergraduate degree and graduated Magnum Cum Laude after playing on the Varsity Soccer team. He went on to receive his medical diploma from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2007. While studying medicine, Dr. Skidmore developed an interest in cancer treatment, using a small research grant awarded over the summer of his first year to learn more about oncology.
Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Skidmore completed a one-year internship at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and then served his Radiation Oncology residency at the University of Cincinnati’s Barrett Cancer Center. His residency helped him gain valuable knowledge about innovative cancer treatments with radiation therapy. Some of these technologies included stereotactic radiosurgery, high dose rate brachytherapy, and image guided-intensity modulated radiation therapy. During his time in Ohio Dr. Skidmore served as the chief resident for the radiation oncology specialty, receiving a fellowship for high dose rate brachytherapy with the American Brachytherapy Society.
